Our Goals

Health Psychology Research (HPR) licenses patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) designed by Clare Bradley and her HPR Team. Our primary goal at HPR is to carry out further research and promote high standards in the design, development and use of PROMs as well as increasing the number of questionnaires available for different conditions and languages.

We work towards this goal in the following ways:

    • Qualitative interviews with patients underpin the design of all our PROMs. These interviews optimise PROM content to reflect patients’ priorities and concerns.
    • Using rigorous quantitative psychometric analyses to determine optimal scoring for valid and reliable scales/subscales when producing new questionnaires.
    • Applying gold standard linguistic validation procedures to generate new language versions of questionnaires. This minimizes any risk of items being understood differently across different language versions and optimises their reliability and validity.
    • Our questionnaires are easy to use and concise. This means they can be combined with other similarly coherent and concise questionnaires while avoiding undue repetition of items or duplication of concepts measured. In this way we facilitate clear thinking about the concepts to be measured and their subsequent interpretation.
    • Supporting our licensees with tailored advice on best use of our questionnaires in the context of their study.
    • Publishing in academic journals, participating in international conferences, and sharing our perspective on good practice in PROM development and use within the research community.
    • We have a flexible licence fee structure that means fair access for both commercial and non-commercial users of HPR-licensed questionnaires. Student licences are provided pro bono.
